Community means strength that joins our strength to do the work that needs to be done, arms to hold us up when we falter, a circle of healing, a circle of friends, someplace where we can be free.”

Mary says:  "Another way that compulsions serve us is that they are a temporary balm for our homesickness.  We all carry a deep longing to know the aliveness and magic that we knew as children and compulsions give us a hint of what it was like when we lived in deep connection with ourselves the comfort of a full stomach, the happiness of an alcoholic high, the thrill of shopping.  But the high from a wave of compulsion is not the true high we are longing for – the high of being authentically ourselves.  So it is never enough.  Quickly it turns into an urge for more, more, more, leaving self judgment and despair in its wake."
