It’s time to Fall in Love with You

Many of us look at what is not okay about ourselves and our lives and make a commitment to change those things. But has that really ever worked?

What if you held the intention to fall in love with you as you are! It is now the time in your life to come home to your heart and the most important person to touch with your heart is you! You are a unique and exquisite creation of life. There has never been anyone like you and there never will be again. You matter!! And you are loved more than you can possibly know…even with all of your so-called imperfections.

You not only have many wonderful qualities, but you are also nutty as a fruitcake! There is a wonderful Zen quote in my book, Belonging to Life: “Freedom comes when you are without anxiety about non-perfection.” Take a moment and let that in. Freedom comes when you can let go of being somebody who needs to be different in order to be okay. There is no such thing as ‘getting it all together.’ We are all works in progress until our last breath.

What would it be like if your intention was to meet yourself in your own heart rather than setting an intention to change something about yourself and your life? This means letting go of resisting, judging, hating, fearing, and shaming all the parts of you that you don’t like. This could include your anxiety, your meanness, your shame, your physical pain, your insecurity, your aging, your too big thighs, your greed, your compulsion (or maybe all of them!). One of the most startling realizations I came across on the path back to myself and back to life is that there is absolutely nothing inside of me to be ashamed of or afraid of. And this is true for you, too. Or as Jeff Foster, author of Life Without a Center, once said, “Fall in love with this perfectly divine, very human mess that you are!”

If you are willing to let go of being at war with yourself and instead meet yourself with your heart, know that this will not only bring forth the greatest healing you have ever known, but this healing will also touch your family, the people at work, your fellow shoppers, and even the people driving down the freeway with you. For everyone who discovers how to be guided by the healing presence of the heart becomes a healing force on this planet, helping others to see through their addiction to being better or different than who they are so they, too, can live from the wisdom of their heart.

Fall in love with you and watch magic happen in your life.

  1. Thank you Mary. Your messages continue to lift me up and look forward to the day ahead. I am so grateful for your presence in my life.

  2. Thank you for this good post, Mary. Accepting and YES! celebrating ourselves reminds me of the many good quotes from the American Buddhist nun, Pema Chodron. Google for great quotes! I have been reading her quotes from the small Shambala book, The Pocket Pema Chodron. Highly recommend. I read her quotes nightly before sleep. Lots to think about…..May all those who have fought and are fighting for our freedoms, know there is no greater gift. Thank you. Godspeed everyone! Sky Ann

“Meditation practice isn’t about trying to throw ourselves away and become something better. It’s about befriending who we are already.” ― Pema Chödrön, The Wisdom of No Escape: How to Love Yourself and Your World

    1. Ah yes, I’m a big fan of Pema Chodron as well! Thank you for sharing. Be light!

  3. Awesome! Thank you. I am continually trying to be a better person so I can be more acceptable to other people. It’s so very exhausting at times. Pray for me!

    1. That is exhausting! It may seem counterintuitive to our “somebody” training, but remember, trying to be “a better person,” especially for other people, means rejecting parts of yourself. Those parts will rule you from the dark. Accepting all of you, meeting those parts you were told by others are unacceptable and giving them your compassionate attention is how you become “a better person.” I put that in quotes because I don’t really think in those terms anymore. Anyway, I hope this helps and I will pray for you. Be light!
