A Request

This blog is different than other blogs I have sent you, for I am writing to request your help. In 2015 you supported my son Micah when his cancer returned and metastasized. For him to live, he went through aggressive chemotherapy and multiple surgeries and in that process lost both of his businesses and his home. With your help, he was able to get back on his feet and I’m very grateful to report he has been cancer-free since then and now owns two new businesses! And even after all these years, I have moments of deep gratitude for the support you gave him.

I’m writing about my daughter Katrina who has been caught in the debilitating disease of alcoholism. In the last 20 years, even after attending numerous treatment centers, she has come close to dying at least four times. With great joy, I can share she has now figured out how to deal wither anxiety and at the same time, hooked up with Stephen Levine’s son, Noah Levine. He is the head of Refuge Recovery, which uses Buddhist philosophy to help people recover from addiction.

After a life-changing retreat with Noah in California a few weeks ago, she discovered their Seattle community which, even after a short time, feels like family to her. It was suggested she attend Noah’s Pilgrimage to India in November which, even the idea, gives her a purpose that she hasn’t felt in a long time. I cannot describe the joy that comes from seeing her come out of the ravages of alcoholism.

She hasn’t been working because of this debilitating disease so she has started a GoFundMe page which is another good step for her because she is now willing to be vulnerable enough to ask for help.

If it calls to you, please visit her GoFundMe page. https://gofund.me/c51bc050

If it doesn’t, please hold for deep healing to continue to show up in her life.

Thank you…

Mary

PPS – And yes, I have had many challenges in my life and my family’s lives, but all of it has deepened my trust in the whole process and opened me to the joy that comes when you don’t resist the challenges!!

  1. I am happy for her and applaud your support of her. The 12-step program i am a part of recommends no significant changes for at least the first year of sobriety. My first reaction on reading this is that this journey would be a huge undertaking… a big change, and possibly quite difficult ,if not harmful, for her…i also suffer with anxiety and find travel a trigger. And of course, it is her journey and decision. I won’t be contributing $, but surely prayers..,.blessings

    1. I had that concern as well, but we talked about it and I told her India is known to bring up all of the unhealed parts of us. She talked to her teacher and she feels that traveling with a group of people who are all cultivating sobriety will help and if anything gets stuck, she will have her teacher to walk her through it. Thank you for your concern. Be light!
