We Are Not Broken

I had a wonderful summer. Not working with people and groups for the last few months, has allowed me time to listen, deeply listen to myself. This listening has allowed me to bring back home to my heart parts of myself that were exiled so very long ago. Such Joy!

As my heart has filled up and spilled over with deep love for my immediate experience, it has shown me, on a deeper level, that this journey of awakening is a journey back home to our hearts.

I just finished the first draft of my new book. Its working title is A Journey to the Mountain of Being where the Heart Resides. It is everything I offer in my books, courses, blogs, and radio show, put in story form. The main character goes through many challenges as she gets lost in the Valley of Forgetting and locks herself up in the Fort called Mind. But as the Mountain calls to her, she continues her journey, and every step of the way nature invites her mind to quiet and her heart to open so she can know the joy of being fully alive.

When she finally makes it to the Mountain of Being, the vast view softens any armoring left around her heart as she becomes a healing presence in the world. I am thrilled at how it has shown up. Stay tuned. It is being edited and when this is done, I will send it off to my publisher.

While writing this summer I rediscovered a favorite quote of mine that made my heart melt in utter joy.  It is written by Dr. Mark Sandlin:

“We are not broken. We are not fallen. We are not flawed. We are simply fragile. We are beautifully distractible. We are not broken. We are human. We are flesh and blood, and we are experiential. Sometimes that makes us better (opens us). Sometimes that makes us worse (closes us). It never makes us less. Or sinful. Or unredeemable. It means we are real. It means that life has a relentless hold on us. The struggles, the stumbles, the seemingly endless short-fallings simply point to our humanity not to our unworthiness. They mean life is difficult — but they also mean life is vibrant, pulsing with potential, ripe with possibility, constantly presenting lessons from which to grow. YOU — you are not broken. You are a unique expression of God here on Earth. You are bursting with potential that has not yet been expressed. You are God’s beloved. You are NOT broken. You are in process. You are love hoping to not only be expressed but to be recognized.”

I invite you to take a moment, close your eyes and breathe in and out through your heart. Now contemplate the possibility that all the ups and downs of your life are bringing you to the place where your heart feels safe enough to express its wisdom and in return, you receive the recognition of who you truly are – love!

  1. Love the words “You are in process”…..You were the first person to ever suggest to me that I trust the process. Remember the bumper stickers? So if we recognize we are in process, we would do well to then trust the process.

  2. Thank you once again Mary. These words, these truths are exactly what I needed to contemplate today.

  3. Looking foryto your new book! Congrats!
Love Dr. Sandlin’s quote… Good idea to read on a daily basis!! 🌻🌻🌻

  4. Dear heart, Mary! I am so looking forward to your new book! Your work has helped and inspired me for so many of my adult years. As I was faulting myself for being late on reading your post, and sometimes a slow learner (!), I searched quotes on going slow. I found this one by Alan Watts, who I read and loved in my very early 20’s. He has stood the test of time! “There is no hurry, and in a way there is no future. It is all here — so take it easy, take your time, and get acquainted with it.” — Alan Watts

I am so grateful for getting to know you and your work!
Thick Nat Hahn has said, breathe, walk & smile. I try not to be late for those! Godspeed always! Sky Ann

    1. It’s never too late. As always, I love your comments and the quotes you find. Be light!
