The Dignity Pledge

Steve Hartman has a segment on CBS Mornings called Kindness 101 where he and two of his children explore the qualities that will heal our world.  It has been so popular they gave him an hour in prime time to share stories of kindness and how they impact the world. His intent is to have kindness go viral!

And boy does our world need more kindness, caring, and the ability to listen to the ‘other’.  All you have to do is look at what is happening between Israel and Palestine. They are like two children arguing, saying the other is to blame. It would be laughable if it wasn’t so lethal.

Can you make a difference? Absolutely. We are all an interconnected web of life and how you are in your daily life makes a difference in the whole. In that vein, I invite you to take the Dignity Pledge. Almost 100,000 people have taken it so far and our world desperately needs more people to live from the wisdom that is inherent in this pledge. As you read the pledge, I invite you to first take it for yourself because, of all the people in your life, you are the person who most needs the qualities that the pledge supports. As you commit to meeting yourself with dignity, it will be more natural to meet all human beings in the same way.

I pledge to stand up for the worth, value, and dignity of every person, and I commit to be a part of the Dignity Revolution.  I pledge and commit…

  1. To be kind, friendly, humane, compassionate, and thoughtful of others.

  2. To be loving, for love is not an emotion, but a decision.

  3. To be a person of peace, that as far as it depends on me, I will be at peace with everyone.

  4. To be a person of patience.

  5. To be a person of goodness.

  6.  To always bring true joy everywhere, while sincerely acknowledging the sorrow, sadness, and brokenness in the world.

  7. To be a person of faithfulness.

  8. To be a person of gentleness.

  9. To be a person of self-control in society, whatever life brings.

  10. To be a friend to all.

If you would like to take the pledge, click on the link.  Know you will not always live into these qualities, so no judgment when you fall short.  Bring dignity and kindness to your own forgetting and then, as soon as possible, become again a person who brings healing to our beleaguered planet.

  1. Great, I took the Pledge for me and everything living and most of all for the Souls of the world,
    Thank You for Sharing..
    Love, Dennis
